It was a perfect night for our favorite Pizza Farm. We enjoy trying out different places and going on nights other than Tuesday, but A to Z is our number one favorite. It was a pleasure to spend the longest day of the year among friends, eating pizza, celebrating a birthday, sharing our Pizza Farm love with a couple new people, and enjoying the beautiful backdrop.
Before arriving on the farm, several of us stopped in Stockholm for our Pie Shop pick up. Since we called ahead, we were able to reserve the popular Chocolate Cream pie. Usually it is sold out by the time we get there. We were a bit ahead of the other cars joining us, so we took the chance to enjoy the bikes available as part of the Stockholm Blue Bike Project and cruise across the street to the Mississippi River, before loading back into the car and heading up County Road J.
It was obvious as we approached that things were hopping at the Farm. Cars were parked along the side of the road after the designated parking areas had filled up. There was a line to put in our order, which gave us almost enough time to decide on our pizzas before we go to the front. The wait time was over an hour. The staff, which during the off season is simply the owners, Robbi and Ted, had increased to 7 people working together to make over 200 pizzas for many happy customers. The grounds were full of picnic blankets, camp chairs, folding tables, and children playing with various balls.
We ordered 6 pizzas and they were all delicious. The Slab-roasted Bacon was a treat not often on the menu, the Five Chile Sauce was hot enough to eat without the Frank’s that we brought, and both of the pesto selections were delicious. And we finished the night with chocolate cream, triple chocolate pecan, and triple berry pie. As we walked back to our cars, still dusk out at almost 10pm, the fields were lit up with lightning bugs. Our bellies were a bit too full to chase them, but it was fun to see them out the window for most of the drive along Great River Road.
